Deutsch: Draisine, auch Laufmaschine genannt, von ca. 1820. Die Laufmaschine wurde 1817 vom Badener Karl Freiherr von Drais in Mannheim erfunden. Als erstes Fortbewegungsmittel, bei dem zwei Räder hintereinander laufen, gilt sie als die Urfom des heutigen Fahrrades. Die obige Draisine wurde aus Kirschbaum und Nadelholz angefertigt und befindet sich im Kurpfälzischen Museum in Heidelberg in Deutschland (Inv.-Nr. GH 98).
English: Draisine, also called Laufmaschine ("running machine"), from around 1820. The Laufmaschine was invented by the German Baron Karl von Drais in Mannheim in 1817. Being the first means of transport to make use of the two-wheeler principle, the Laufmaschine is regarded as the archetype of the bicycle. The above Draisine was built with cherry tree wood and softwood. It is displayed at the Kurpfälzisches Museum in Heidelberg, Germany (Inv.-No. GH 98).
