English: A hunt on dodos for food. The text with the engraving reads:

- Of the palm trees' sap, the dodos round of hinds
- All while men the parrot hold that he pipes and shrieks
- And cause that others besides also befall the coops
An engraving the publisher H. Soete Boom had made for the journal of Willem Van West-Zanen (c 1602) showing the killing of dodos (centre left, depicted as penguin-like), a seacow (Dugong dugong, now extinct from the area) and perhaps Thirioux’s grey parrot (Psittacula bensoni, bottom). Travellers on Mauritius described how easy it was to catch the parrot by capturing one and making it call out, which would summon an entire flock, and this is shown in the drawing. Willem van West-Zanen recalls in his travel report that his men took 50 birds aboard in one day, among which were 24 or 25 dodos, which in his estimation were sufficiently large that only two sufficed to feed the whole crew.

Getrocken uyt de naerstige aentekeningen van Willem van Westzanen, schipper op de Bruinvis, en met eenige noodige bijvoegselen vermeerdert door H. Soeteboom, 't Sanerdam bij Hendrik Jacobsz. Zoet, Boeckverkooper aan den Dam in de Witte Pers. 1648.
Afrikaans: 'n Gravure wat die uitgewer H. Soeteboom berei het vir die joernaal van Willem van West-Zanen, skipper van die Bruinvis (c. 1602), wat die buitmaak van Dodo's afbeeld (middel links afgebeeld as pikkewynatig), 'n Doegong ( Dugong dugong) en Thirioux se gryspapegaai ( Psittacula bensoni) (onder). Reisigers na Mauritius het vertel hoe maklik dit was om die papegaaie te vang, deur naamlik een vas te hou en te laat skree, wat dan 'n hele swerm sou aanlok, soos in die gravure aangetoon. Willem van West-Zanen meld in sy reisverslag dat sy skeepslui in een dag 50 voëls aan boord geneem het, waaronder 24 of 25 Dodo's, wat volgens hom so groot was, dat slegs twee die hele bemanning kon voed.
