In Pakistan there are currently 5 Social Centres and for children and the local community, examples of which are Jorgama and Bhakatpara.  Many SOS Social Centres operate via Family Strengthening Programmes, which aim to support the wider community.  Below is some information about some of the SOS Social Centres that SOS Children runs in Pakistan.  This information covers the details of each SOS Social Centre, along with a recent update of the work going on there:

SOS Medical Centre Lahore PakistanLahore

Description of SOS Medical Centre:

The SOS Medical Centre, Lahore helps orphaned and vulnerable children and their families in the local community. It provides basic health care to about 1200 orphaned and vulnerable children and their families.

Kasur

Description of SOS Social Centre:

The SOS Social Centre, Kasur runs a Rural Support Programme supporting over 8,000 orphaned and vulnerable children and their families in thirty-one villages in the remote border area near Lahore. It is acknowledged as a model for supporting the poorest families in rural communities and transforming their lives. The SOS Social Centre focusses on health and education, including adult literacy and skills training. The local community is involved in all the initiatives with local committees meeting regularly to discuss the problems faced by the community and to find ways of solving them through self-help. The SOS Social Centre has achieved increased literacy among men and women, an increase in the number of children attending school, improved sanitation and clean water. The SOS Social Centre also provides basic health care with free treatment and free medicine and an immunisation programme for children.

Description of SOS Social Centre/FSP:

The family strengthening programme offers access to essential services for children’s development (eg. educational, nutritional, health support, social skills) and supports families to protect and care for their children. The programme also aims at linking families with income generating activities and offers help to improve the parents’ parenting skills.
