SOS Children's Village Galle
The foundation stone for SOS Children's Village Galle was laid on 26 March 1988. The SOS Children's Village was completed in early 1990 after some difficulties and delays due to the unrest in the country.
Galle, which is located at a distance of about 160 km from Colombo, has become the biggest town in the south of the island. The SOS Children's Village is situated 4.5 km from the city and consists of 12 family houses made of pink natural stone, which were constructed in 2 rows on a hilly site.
Other SOS Projects in Galle
There is an SOS Nursery and an SOS Social Centre, which are both open to the people from the neighbourhood. At the kindergarten, up to 130 children can be taught in four group rooms.
The SOS Social Centre includes a room for medical treatment as well as rooms for counselling and crafts classes. It coordinates the local family strengthening programmes. Near the SOS Children's Village, there are several schools, a hospital and a market.
