Happy Valley Village — Child Sponsorship Information

SOS Children's Village Happy Valley

Since SOS Children's Village Tibetan Homes could not cope with the large number of refugee children from Tibet, a second SOS Children's Village was established right next to it. SOS Children's Village Mussoorie – Happy Valley was officially inaugurated in 1982 and consists of 11 family houses, a community house with a multi-purpose hall and the necessary administration and service area.

The Tibetan Homes Foundation runs a nearby hospital, a nursery, a school and a large vocational training centre for dressmaking, arts and handicrafts. All these facilities are not only for the benefit of the SOS children but also for the people from the Tibetan settlements. In addition to conventional classes, the school offers a separate class for children with special needs, who are looked after by two teachers and a nurse. Tibetan youngsters who did not get any education at home and are now too old to attend a conventional school are offered training courses for young adults.

Other SOS Projects in Happy Valley

In 1990, an SOS Youth House was opened. Young people usually move from the SOS Children's Village to an SOS Youth Home when they start a vocational training course or go on to higher education. With the support of qualified youth workers, the young people develop realistic perspectives for their future, learn to shoulder responsibility and increasingly make their own decisions. They are encouraged to develop team spirit and build up contacts with relatives and friends, as well as with the relevant authorities and potential employers.
