SOS Nursery KeilaSOS Children's Village Keila

The three hectares plot of land lies about three kilometres from the city centre of Keila and is very well integrated into the public supply systems. The family houses were built in the traditional local style, with the ground floor consisting of brickwork and the upper part made of wood. A friendly residential area is neighbouring the SOS Children's Village, while schools, shops and a hospital are situated in the city centre of Keila.

SOS Children's Village Keila comprises twelve family houses, houses for the SOS aunts (who support the SOS mothers and take care of the children when the mothers are on leave) and the village director and an administration and service area. Up to 84 children who lost their parents or cannot stay with them for different reasons can find a new home there.

Since SOS Children's Village Keila opened its gates in 1995, the work has continued to expand. Today, SOS Children's Villages is not only caring for children in need, but is also providing invaluable support and offering hope to local families and communities through a number of facilities and programmes.

Other SOS Projects in Keila

The SOS Nursery consists of two group rooms and has a capacity for up to fifty children. Primary school education is offered at the SOS School, where up to 120 children can be taught in four classrooms. Additionally, the SOS Nursery and the SOS School share a kitchen, a dining hall, a multi-purpose hall and a garden.

Furthermore, the two SOS Youth Homes in Keila and Tallinn also belong to the SOS Children's Village in Keila. Youngsters move to the SOS Youth Homes once they have outgrown their SOS families. They stay there during their vocational training or further education and their youth leaders help them prepare for an independent life.

The Family Strengthening Programme offers access to essential services for children’s development (eg. educational, nutritional and health support, social skills) and supports families to protect and care for their children. The programme also aims at linking families with income generating activities and offers help to improve the parents’ parenting skills.
