Child Sponsorship background from São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil
SOS Children's Village São Bernardo do Campo
SOS Children's Village São Bernardo do Campo is situated in a wildlife sanctuary about 35 kilometres southeast of São Paulo. The nearest town is Riacho Grande, at a distance of six kilometres. There is a bus from the SOS Children's Village to Riacho Grande. SOS Children's Village São Bernardo do Campo was built on a wooded five-acre site near a dam and opened its gates in April 1970.
The SOS Children's Village enables orphaned and abandoned children to find a new home with a loving family. Alongside the family houses is the village director's house, a house for the so-called SOS aunts (SOS mother trainees or family helpers who support the SOS mothers during their daily work and fill in for them when they are ill or on leave), and an administration and service area. The children from the SOS Children's Village usually attend local schools.
Other SOS Projects in São Bernardo do Campo
An SOS Social Centre offers full day care for up to pre-school children from the local community.
An SOS Youth Home in town accommodates young adults from the SOS Children's Village. Young people usually move from the SOS Children's Village to an SOS Youth Home when they start a vocational training course or go on to higher education. With the support of qualified youth workers, the young people develop realistic perspectives for their future, learn to shoulder responsibility and increasingly make their own decisions. They are encouraged to develop team spirit and build up contacts with relatives and friends, as well as with the relevant authorities and potential employers.
