The younger children are looked after at the SOS Nursery, which is attended by children from the neighbourhood as well. Up to 25 children can be taught in three group rooms. Directly opposite the SOS Children's Village, there is an elementary and a secondary school.

Older youths usually move to the SOS Youth Home at Samutprakarn when they start a vocational training course or go on to higher education. The SOS Youth Home is approximately 12 km from the SOS Children's Village and accommodates up to 48 boys. With the support of qualified youth workers, the young people develop realistic perspectives for their future, learn to shoulder responsibility and increasingly make their own decisions. They are encouraged to develop team spirit and build up contacts with relatives and friends, as well as with the relevant authorities and potential employers. In 1994, some rooms were rented in Bangkok for girl students who can stay there while they are at university so that they do not have to commute.

In 2002, an SOS Vocational Training Centre for SOS mother and staff training was opened at Bangpoo.

Background to Bangpoo

Bangkok is the largest city of Thailand. It is the nation's capital and main port; the problems it faces are typical of big cities: pollution, housing shortage and streets congested with traffic. The weather in Bangkok is hot and humid all year round, with temperatures ranging from 26 to 31 degrees Centigrade.
