In 1987, the foundation stone was laid for the second Thai SOS Children's Village at Hatyai. The site, a former rubber plantation, is situated 20 km outside the city centre, on the main road to Malaysia and about 30 km from the border.

SOS Children's Village Hatyai consists of twelve family houses, a community house, staff accommodation and a workshop. There is a sick-bay where basic medical treatment is administered.

Other SOS Projects in Hatyai

The SOS Nursery is attended by both children from the SOS Children's Village and children from the local community. Up to 75 children can be taught in three group rooms.

In 1993, an SOS Youth Home was opened at Songkhla. Boys usually move out of the village and into a youth facility when they start a vocational training course or go on to higher education. With the support of qualified youth workers, the young people develop realistic perspectives for their future, learn to shoulder responsibility and increasingly make their own decisions. They are encouraged to develop team spirit and build up contacts with relatives and friends, as well as with the relevant authorities and potential employers. The SOS Youth Home at Songkhla consists of three apartments for up to 20 youths.
