Child Sponsorship background from Kecskemét, Hungary
SOS Children's Village Kecskemét
The second Hungarian SOS Children's Village was built in Kecskemét, a small town approximately eighty kilometres south-east of Budapest. It is located in the district of Petöfi-Varos, about 10 kilometres from the city centre. The local infrastructure is well-developed and the children attend local nurseries and schools. Architecturally speaking, SOS Children's Village Kecskemét is a great success: the houses are furnished in a very practical and attractive manner, so that the children can really feel at home here. The official opening ceremony took place on 15 September 1990 in the presence of numerous guests of honour.
The SOS Children's Village in Kecskemét consists of twelve family houses, a community building with a multipurpose hall, an administration and service area, a workshop and houses for the village director and the SOS aunts (who support the SOS mothers and take care of the children when the mothers are on leave). Up to 78 children can be accommodated at the SOS Children's Village Kecskemét.
Other SOS Projects in Kecskemét
Youths who have already outgrown the SOS Children's Village move to the SOS Youth Home in Lajosmizse which was opened in 2001. They live there during their vocational training or higher education and their youth leaders help them to prepare for life outside the SOS Children's Village and to develop an independent lifestyle.
