Child Sponsorship background from Köszeg, Hungary
SOS Children's Village Köszeg
The third Hungarian SOS Children's Village was built in Köszeg near the Austrian border, within easy distance from the border crossing at Köszeg-Rattersdorf. The small, but ancient town enjoys a good infrastructure and offers a hospital, a polyclinic, a primary school and a secondary school to its inhabitants. Opportunities for further education and for employment exist in Szombathely, which is the nearest urban centre and can easily be reached by bus in about half an hour. The official opening ceremony took place on 29 October 1993.
The SOS Children's Village Köszeg comprises twelve family houses (with a capacity to take in up to 78 children), a community building, a workshop, an administration and service area and houses for the village director and the SOS aunts (who support the SOS mothers and take care of the children when the mothers are on leave). A playground and a sports field were also created.
