Children's Village KoszegSOS Children's Village Köszeg

The third Hungarian SOS Children's Village was built in Köszeg near the Austrian border, within easy distance from the border crossing at Köszeg-Rattersdorf. The small, but ancient town enjoys a good infrastructure and offers a hospital, a polyclinic, a primary school and a secondary school to its inhabitants. Opportunities for further education and for employment exist in Szombathely, which is the nearest urban centre and can easily be reached by bus in about half an hour. The official opening ceremony took place on 29 October 1993.

The SOS Children's Village Köszeg comprises twelve family houses (with a capacity to take in up to 78 children), a community building, a workshop, an administration and service area and houses for the village director and the SOS aunts (who support the SOS mothers and take care of the children when the mothers are on leave). A playground and a sports field were also created.

Other SOS Projects in Köszeg

The SOS Nursery has been operational since 1993 and consists of two group rooms, a kitchen, a room for a speech therapist and a playground. Up to 50 children can be looked after by the staff of the SOS Nursery. Youths who have already outgrown the SOS Children's Village usually move to the SOS Youth Home in Szombathely. They live there during their vocational training or higher education and their youth leaders help them to prepare for life outside the SOS Children's Village and to develop an independent lifestyle.
