SOS Children's Village Greenfields is situated in the Delhi suburb of Faridabad. It consists of twenty family houses, a multi-purpose hall, staff accommodation, the necessary administration and service area, and a village shop. In addition, there is an SOS Nursery, which is also open to the children from the neighbourhood, and a home for retired SOS mothers.

Other SOS Projects in Greenfields

In 1999, an SOS Youth Home was opened. Young people usually move from the SOS Children's Village to an SOS Youth Home when they start a vocational training course or go on to higher education. With the support of qualified youth workers, the young people develop realistic perspectives for their future, learn to shoulder responsibility and increasingly make their own decisions. They are encouraged to develop team spirit and build up contacts with relatives and friends, as well as with the relevant authorities and potential employers.

An SOS Social Centre runs different programmes for the local community. It provides day care for children, various health programmes, counselling and vocational training.

In 2002, SOS Children's Villages India launched its Family Strengthening Programmes in Greenfields. These programmes are intended to support families at risk of abandoning their children and to encourage families to stay together. SOS Children's Villages therefore works with local authorities and other service providers to support families and enable them to take good care of their children.

The Greenfields Family Strengthening Programme provides nutritional, educational and health support as well as vocational training, career counselling sessions and job placement support. Families are linked with existing self-help groups; if there is no group, a new one is formed. The programme also aims at raising awareness of hygiene and child rights and improving people's parenting skills.

At a nearby village called Anangpur, SOS Children's Villages operates some facilities for the benefit of the local population: an SOS Primary School, an SOS Medical Centre and an SOS Nursing School. At the primary school, up to 200 children can be taught. The SOS Medical Centre has 14 rooms for medical treatment and five sick beds. It runs a mother-and-child clinic as well as various health programmes. The nursing school is for girls and offers accommodation for some of the students. The infrastructure in this part of the country is rather poor, and the SOS Children's Village facilities are a great help to the local community.
