Subsea 7 Partnership with SOS Children
Since 2009 Subsea 7 has developed a very close relationship with SOS Children's Village Benguela in Angola. Over this time Subsea 7 has become a true partner for the charity, the Village, and the children who call it home.
Project information
The SOS Children's Village in Benguela, provides a loving home for over 120 orphaned and abandoned children in 13 family houses. All the family homes have an SOS mother; she provides a home and stable family setting, supporting the children with their everyday essential needs.
Through employee fundraising and corporate donations Subsea 7 sponsor 10 of the children in Benguela, enabling them to access the care, education and health services that they need. This support, ensures the well-being of the children in the Village.
Through the sponsorship updates, Subsea 7 are able to watch the children grow into independent adults.
Investing in healthcare
The SOS Medical Centre provides vulnerable children and families within the community access to quality healthcare. There is a strong focus on maternal health, providing women and children with the services they need to prevent illness and access family planning.
Malaria continues to break apart families in Benguela, and SOS Children focuses on prevention and reducing the risk. The generosity of Subsea 7 and its employees has driven forward projects that include the provision of much needed equipment and services on the ground to tackle malaria in the Village.
Inspiring the next generation
Subsea 7 engage with the youths in the Village, inspiring their future careers paths, and helping shape their futures.
They have even employed two former SOS children. This incredible investment in children and young people enables the children in our care to grow into independent adults.
Bringing learning within reach
Basic education is one of the most effective ways of helping people help themselves out of the poverty cycle. Education is at the core of our work in Benguela, starting with quality early years education in the SOS Nursery School, which cares for children in the community as well as those in the Village. This continues in the SOS Primary School, reaches out to the most vulnerable children in the community to help them access an education.
Sustainability
Subsea 7 enable the provision of long term, sustainable projects that will support vulnerable children and families for generations to come.
Employee Engagement
Subsea7 actively promote employee participation with the partnership.
There are currently ten employees who sponsor a child in one of our villages, developing a long term, meaningful connection with our work.
This July, two Subsea7 employees ran the prestigious British 10k London Run. The runners raced through the heart of central London, passing many of the city’s iconic landmarks such as Big Ben, The London Eye, St Paul’s Cathedral, Trafalgar Square and Westminster Abbey; all in the scorching summer heat!
