SOS Children's Village Ben Tre
SOS Children's Village Ben Tre was officially opened in December 1999. It is located in the centre of Ben Tre City, the capital of Ben Tre province. Ben Tre is situated in the delta of the river Mekong about 80 km south-west of Ho Chi Minh City.
SOS Children's Village Ben Tre consists of twelve family homes, staff accommodation and the necessary administrative buildings. The houses were built in the architectural style typical of that region, with the roofs covered in red tiles. There are several schools near the SOS Children's Village. The children can easily reach these schools on foot.
Other SOS Projects in Ben Tre
SOS Children's Village Ben Tre has its own SOS Nursery and an SOS School,
both of which are open to children from the neighbourhood. At the
nursery, up to 190 children can be taught in six group rooms. The SOS
School has 24 classrooms for up to 1,000 pupils, a library, laboratories
and a canteen.
There is also an SOS Youth Home for up to 48 youths from the SOS Children's Village. Young people often move out of the village and into a youth facility when they start a vocational training course or go on to higher education. With the support of qualified youth workers, the youngsters develop realistic perspectives for their future, learn to shoulder responsibility and increasingly make their own decisions.
In September 2008, an SOS Vocational Training Centre was opened. This centre consists of four workshops and accommodation for the students.
